Two years ago I had the chance to see Mineral play in Dallas.It was the last show of their reunion tour and I didn't think they would do a tour because we all know how these band reunions go.When I hear that an old band is getting back together to play, the first thing I think of is new music and tours.But we know most of the time it doesn't end up like that.Old bands getting back together tend to only play big festivals with a setlist being the same songs we all know and hear everyday.So when I heard that Mineral was getting back together to play, I wasn't expecting much but it's still Mineral nonetheless.I've been a fan of Mineral for a long time and it's the first band to introduce to the genre that is called "Emo."So when I heard that they were doing some shows in Texas with Dallas being one of the dates, I had to go.
It was a cold night in Dallas and me, my friend, and brother just arrived at Dada.I was expecting the show to be sold out but surprisingly there were not a lot of people there.Weird being the fact that it's Mineral and being from Texas as well.Even the door guy was surprise saying he was expecting a lot of people to show up.But it's okay because that means more Mineral for us.We walked in and first thing that got my attention was the Mineral merch.Shirts were going for $30, a poster for $20, and $40 for vinyl's.Good thing I owned the vinyl's already.Other than that, we got up to the front stage and wait for the show to start.A folk artist that goes by the name of Josh T.Pearson opened up the show.Really great set and made me a new fan.Funny guy too.Check out his stuff right here Josh T.Pearson.After his set was finished, it was time for Mineral.
Mineral walked up on stage, got all set up, sound checked, and opened up the set with Five, Eight, & Ten.I'm not gonna lie, once I heard that sweet guitar intro, I started to get chills.They sounded amazing! They put lot of energy and emotion into their set.Especially when they started to play Slower.I noticed Scott was so into it to the point where he knocked over his huge bottle of water on stage causing it to spill all over the place.The best part was when they started to play February which is probably one of my favorite Mineral song of all time.It was such a good feeling seeing Mineral in person playing my favorite song.They also played For Ivadell which is another good song and also the only fast paced song off their second album Endserenading.
The highlight of the show was the drunk guy that was standing next to us screaming out "July! Play July!" which got Chris laughing.He screamed out July so many times to the point where some woman in the audience said real angrily "They're not going to play July so give it a rest!" Another woman responded to that saying "How do you know? They could probably play it right now." They were going back and forth which I thought was gonna lead to a scuffle and Chris replied smiling "We'll see, we'll see" and begin to play &Serenading.As the song finished the band walked off and went to back.It was time for the encore.
The band walked back on stage and tuned up.Chris said "We just got done talking in the back about playing July" as he laughed and smiled.We thought they were actually gonna play it but they started the encore with Love Letter Typewriter.At this point we could tell that they were worn out but they still managed to play a good set.The closing song was Parking Lot and it was the perfect song to close out the night.We were all jumping around and singing every word of it because we know this was for sure the last time we will ever see Mineral.Best ending of the night.
After the set the band was talking to each other, singing autographs, and taking pictures with everyone.I had a chance to talk to Gabriel Wiley after the show.Really nice guy.I mentioned the old video of him mooning the guys from The Get Up Kids during a little acoustic set which he confessed and was very embarrassed about.Over all, it was a really good show.I was really surprise on how good they sound that night.I'm not too hype about reunions but this was by far the best reunion show and I'm glad that I went.
