Camping In Alaska Interview

Camping In Alaska AKA CIA AKA Fuck Dads is an emo band from Huntsville Alabama.Their EP Please Be Nice got a lot of hype on Tumblr and is well known for it's sad lyrics, killer guitar licks, and funny song titles. The two songs I really enjoyed off this EP is C U In Da Ballpit and Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 4.Them song titles doe but the EP is good. The band will eventually throw Please Be Nice out the window for good and begin working on their full length album titled Bathe. The album was released on Broken World Media ran by Derrick of The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die and pressed on cassette.I had a chance to purchased the cassette on the site and I was super stoked on getting in the mail. After listening to it I can say that Bathe is ten times better then the stuff on the EP.I mean don't get me wrong, Please Be Nice was good but Bathe is better! The album doesn't have the twinkly elements that Please Be Nice had but it's a good change. My favorite track off the album is Chinaski. So as Bathe was playing on my radio, the band announced on Facebook that CIA is ending and is gonna play one last show due to a member going to the Navy but a new album was in the works. They released new tracks Roses and DIY Karma Kit on Bandcamp and they just get better and better. The new tracks kills! There hasn't been a release date for it and many people are wondering when will it come out.I had a chance to talk to Austin (singer, the master of memes) of the band on Facebook one night and he talked about the new album and the beef with Dads. This is a small interview so hope guys like it! Get your tissues ready!

tFirst, thank you for taking the time to let me interview you! How are you on this fine night?

A: sweaty n redi betty

t: Hot.I like.Working out?

A: no

t: Should have known.Emos don't work out.Lets get this question out of the way to put an end to it since every body wants to know, what is the beef you guys have with Dads? Fathers

A: 80% lean 20% fat

t: And there we have it.Thanks for clearing that up.CIA album Bathe was released on Broken World Media, How did that come about? I'm sure you guys were pretty stoked to release an album on that label run by Derrick of The World Is.

A: Well our friend Dakota knew Derrick and put in a good word for us, so that's pretty cool, we barely had to do anything

t: Nice! What was it like going in recording the album?

A: We did it in two days with Jonathan, the dude from ugly houses, and we just kinda hashed it out ya know, it's all just stupid riffs

t: Cool cool.Did you guys have that thought of what people would think of it? Because there's some hardcore CIA fans that just can't get enough of the Please Be Nice EP and you guys seem to take a different route with Bathe.

A: Please be nice is so ridiculous, I mean bathe is too, but please be nice is like beyond cringe. and that's due to poor songwriting, people recording didn't understand what we were going for, it was too clean, triggered drums, shitty reverb guitar, we sounded different live, even back then. bathe was what we actually sounded like, but that's not a whole lot better. Our third LP is good in my opinion, but only three songs have been released because there's parts that aren't finished

t: I was actually gonna mention about the next LP, How is that going so far?

A: We haven't worked on it since April last year, just can't seem to finish these few parts

t: Oh wow so it's been a while then.Is there any plans in the future to finish it up?

A: yeah we'll eventually finish it hahaha, I mean I really doubt anyone will like it, its a lot different

t: We will definitely like it! I mean after hearing Roses and DIY Karma Kit witch is an awesome track by the way, people need the next LP! haha but I understand the hold on it.How was your reaction to people on Tumblr reblogging and sharing the songs off the Please Be Nice EP? That's how I found out about you guys actually. The cover got my attention hahaha

A: I just posted it on there and it took off which was cool, I like looking at art on tumblr

t: Same here.I know CIA ended and that's due to a member going to the Navy.Correct me if I'm wrong. So is CIA done for good or is it put on hold for now?

A: Yeah but he got discharged and came back, but we doin our own things now, he's in weatherhead and I'm in leechmeat

t: Nice.Is there any links to Bancamps or Facebook people can check em out at?

A:Yeah http://weatherheadal.bandcamp.com/releases no leechmeat recording yet

t: Cool I'll be sure to check it out.Okay my good man, I think it's time end this.Thank you for letting me do a small interview with you! Looking forward to the next LP in the future! Have any last words? Wanna give a shout out to anybody?

A: Fuck dads and fuck chubz

Null Half-Breed

Remember the emo/punk band Hollow Point TX? I did a review of them Here after I saw them at Sons Of Hermann Hall with Turnover and a bunch of other bands that played that night.I've became a fan instantly and been waiting to hear some new jams from them.So after being off of Facebook for sometime, Their Saving Face EP came to mind and I decided to reactivate my Facebook to check and see if they released anything new. They announced on their Facebook that Hollow Point TX is no more but they made a new band.Same band members but under a different name.So I decided to check out the new project and I liked what I was hearing! They go by the name of Null and they have released an EP called Half-Breed.I can sure in hell tell you that they improved a lot! It's more heavier and more mature. Also what caught my attention is that it's 90's influenced.Bands today has been going after that 90's, grunge sound and it's not bad.We love the fucking 90's! The lyrics are are the same like in Hollow Point but it's good.I like the bummer songs with the 90's sound.Off the back the band reminds me of Failure, Hum, and Shiner. My favorite track off this EP is Kin To None Pt.2.Just the intro makes me wanna jump on a group of random people smoking vapers as if I was stage diving at a show. It's that good! It's awesome coming across good bands from your hometown.I'm happy I checked this band out.So if you're a fan of the 90's grunge sound, Pop open a cold one and go listen to this EP.I promise that you will enjoy it!
